Group

For this A2 Media project I am working with Ivana Babicova, Michael Foreman & Tom Teece.
Our first major decision was to choose to do a teaser trailer as opposed to a short film. We feel as a group that this would be the most effective and acheiveable task. We will also be doing two subsidary tasks.

Narrative Structures

Todorovs Theory -
1.Equilibrium
2.Distruption
3.Recognition of disruption
4.Attempt to repair disruption
5.A return or restoration of New equilibrium

Propps Theory - 1.Preperation
2.Compilation
3.Transference
4.Struggle
5.Return
6.Recognition

In our film we will use todorovs theory.
1.The equilibrium is before the kidnapping takes place. Although there is a not complete state of equilibrium as there is a rivalry between the two crime bosses, nothing has happened yet.
2.The distruption is when the main crime bosses girlfriend gets kidnapped.
3.The recognition is when the crime boss realises.
4.The attempt to repair disruption is when the crime boss tries to get her back.
5.The restored equilibrium is when the crime boss manages to get her back.

Film Name

For our film, we have come up with three possible names; Shooter, Kidnap & Snatched.
After deliberating, we have decided that Snatched would be the best name for our film as it is snappy, yet relevant. Kidnap is relevant also, but a bit boring. Shooter is snappy, but not as relevant, and Snatched is all three - relevant, exciting and snappy. We also thought that the name Taken would be a perfect title for our film, but that is already in use.

Target Audeince Moodboard

18-24 Year OldsThis moodboard is a representation of our target audience (18-24year old males) interests. I started by looking at hobbies such as music, sports and gaming, and then looked at shops that they would go in and/or work at, as well as places they would visit such as restaurants and bars. Notice that a lot of these logos and images are orientated around dark colours; blue grey and black. This is a connotation for gangster genre as black is a key colour and is appropriate to 18-24 year old males as opposed to girls. Our group should take this into account as a theme for our project. We could look at these being the key colours for our trailer as well as our film poster and magazine to attract our target audience. Also, these places and companies could be potential advertising locations for our film.

Target Audience

We have chosen the target audience for our film to be 16-24 year old males as males prodominantly watch crime and gangster mivies, and they appeal the most to this age group as they can often be the target for crime and are represented by the media laregly as playing a part in this sort of lifestyle.

Key Concepts

Richard Dyer (1993)

Richard DyerRichard Dyer argues that representation is a political tool. How social groups are treated in cultural representation is part and parcel of how they are treated in life, that poverty, harrassment, self hate and discrimination (in housing, jobs, educational opportunity and so on) are shored up and instituted by representation.

Reseraching Genres

We have looked at several trailers and clips on the path to deciding which genre to choose.

FilmNoir

The Third Man:

Sunset Boulevard:

Production Company Name & Logo

Production Company Name
For our production company name we decided on Tommy Gun. This is a type of gun and guns are one of the most iconic features of the crime and gangster genre, making this a relevant, short and snappy production company name.

Here are three ideas for our production compant logo. We produced them on photoshop after having sketched them out roughly. The first one is simple but the gun is not very prominent so we decided that it is not as strong as the other two ideas. The second idea is different to the other two as there is a man holding a gun. This looks good, but it has the word gun which we think is not as effective as having an image of a gun there instead. Also, the man is in a shadow style, which although he l;ooks like a gangster could be mistaken for the genre 'Film-noir'. The third design we decided is the strongest. The gun acts as an underlining for Tommy, and the bold font fits the style of the chunky gun. We decided for all three designs to be black and white as black is a prominent colour for our genre and it is simple yet effective.
